SOME VELVET MORNING (ongoing)
Some velvet mornin' when I'm straight. I'm gonna open up your gate
And maybe tell you 'bout Phaedra, And how she gave me life, And how she made it end
Some velvet mornin' when I'm straight
Flowers growing on a hill, dragonflies and daffodils, Learn from us very much, look at us but do not touch
Phaedra is my name
- Lee Hazelwood
Some Velvet Morning is a series of hanging banners which include painting, embroidery, crochet, knit and fabric work.
The first banner in the series - Like Water (Su Gibi) - was initially exhibited in October 2017 as part of the group show "CORE 13: Defining Ourselves" put together by Jason Triefenbach & Able Arts Network and curated by Doug Harvey at the Liberty Art Gallery in Long Beach, California. The four tapestry series was included in the exhibition The Future Can Only be Told in Reverse atUCSB College of Creative Studies Gallery, curated by Jane Mulfinger. This project was initially inspired by an invitation from Guan Rong to paint something in a doorway.
